Run It Girl
A sport-for-development initiative designed to empower girls in Laos through structured athletic programs and life skills training.
About This Project
Run it Girl is a sport-for-development initiative by Events for Good (EFG) designed to empower girls in Laos through structured athletic programs and life skills training.
The project addresses barriers to girls' sports participation in developing countries. EFG aims to improve the lives of 1000 girls in the first three years by leveraging athletics as a mechanism for personal and community development.
Key Benefits for Participants
Girls involved gain competencies including self-esteem building, communication skills, conflict resolution, and leadership development. The program creates a safe space to meet and hang out with other girls while providing mentoring and tutoring support.
Program Components
Run it Girl Club in Vientiane offers:
- Daily running activities and safe gathering spaces
- Mentoring and tutoring in math, science, English, computer skills, and business
- Sports league organization exclusively for girls
- Special events tied to International Children's Day, International Women's Day, and sporting occasions
Broader Impact
The initiative addresses documented challenges including educational disparities, maternal health, disease prevention, and gender-based violence. By involving boys and men, the program works to shatter gender stereotypes and bridge gender gaps.
