Bike Kitchen Laos
A community hub that encourages and empowers more people to use bicycles in their everyday lives for environmental, health, economic, and community benefits.
About This Project
The Bike Kitchen serves as a community hub that will encourage and empower more people to use bicycles in their everyday lives for environmental, health, economic, and community benefits.
The project addresses rising fuel costs and inflation in Laos while promoting cycling as climate action and providing vocational training opportunities.
Initial Engagement Phase
The initiative generates interest through seminars, panel discussions, documentary screenings, and social media presence. Many sessions are conducted in English for language development opportunities.
Operational Phase
The program trains young people and unemployed residents in bike mechanics, offers free basic tune-ups, organizes guided beginner rides on Saturdays, and arranges bike rentals. Female-inclusive rides and maintenance sessions provide additional support for women cyclists.
Volunteer Mobilization
Trained volunteers expand repair services for low-income clients. A mobile Bike Kitchen visits selected districts, and donated bicycles are distributed to poor communities.
Project Goals
- 1,200 total participants across all activities
- 400 bike maintenance service clients
- 3,000 Facebook followers
